Miss & Mr Diamond International & Australia

I was approached by the mother/daughter directors of a fledgling nationwide “beauty pageant with a difference”.

Although the young pageant had gathered steam, the directors’ goal was to gain greater exposure of the pageant, and attract pageant delegates from outside of the local industry.

Upon talking with the directors’ about their goals for the pageant, I decided the best angle to run with was the differences between their pageant and most traditional pageants.

So I went about crafting a media release highlighting what this pageant was doing in order to embrace diversity and inclusivity.

Initially, upon distributing the release, I didn’t attract a huge response from the media.

But then I received a phone call from a producer at The Project who loved my pitch.

The producer asked me to compile a list of all pageant entrants from around Australia and a short bio on each.

From there, presenter Rachel Corbett visited and interviewed one of the pageant entrants in Tasmania, followed by the two pageant directors in Brisbane and then finally, the grand final of the pageant in Brisbane two days later.

When the six-minute segment aired nationally on The Project, the pageant website crashed from the sheer number of potential  entrants attempting to register to join the pageant.

This outcome is what we like to call a “major win”!
